We keep these beams in stock so that we can better serve you. They ship out in as quick as 5 to 10 business days. Our other faux beams are made to order and takes longer to receive. Barron Designs Inc. (dba Fauxwoodbeams.com) warrantees all Faux Products to withstand normal conditions for fifteen years. Barron Designs (dba Fauxwoodbeams.com) warrantees the Faux Products will not peel, crack, split, or rot. Barron Designs (dba Fauxwoodbeams.com) warrantees against all manufactures defects. (Barron Designs must be notified within 30 days of purchase if a manufacture defects was found. Damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, hurricanes, tornados, improper installation, improper maintenance, acts of God, or use of products not approved by Barron Designs Inc shall not be covered under the warrantee. Barron Designs Prefinished (Walnut) Faux Products (except Timber and Sandblasted Products) are stained with an exterior stain that contains a U.V. inhibitor. This prevents and/or slows down sun fading, but like anything left in the sun, some slight fading could occur. Barron Designs does not warranty against this sun fading. When Barron Designs has determined that a Faux Product is defective, it will replace the product or a credit may be offered instead of replacement (at Barron Designs' discretion). Barron Designs' liability is limited to the cost of the defective product.

Do the faux wood beams look real?

Everyone has the same reaction when they see our Faux Wood Beams for the first time. They have to touch one to "see" with their own hands that it is not real wood. Next they have to pick up the beam to see how light it is. Shocked, surprised, and delighted. They can't believe it.
What are the Faux Wood Beams and your other faux products made out of?

Why styrofoam beams (also called STYRENE or EPS foam) are bad for the environment?
Styrofoam is bad for the environment because it does not dissolve. It may stay in the land fill for over 400 years or more. Sometimes the Styrofoam can kill fish and animals in the ocean. The Styrofoam breaks down into little pieces and the wind carries it away to the sea. It floats on the surface of the water and the fish think that it is food so they eat it, this may cause sickness. The fish cannot digest the Styrofoam so they die. Styrofoam can also cause sickness for us. When you drink out of a Styrofoam cup, the Polystyrene (the molecule of Styrofoam) can remove from the cup and dissolve into the liquid that you drink. Even if you drink a small portion of the polystyrene, that can cause fatigue, down-syndrome and even cancer.
Each year Americans throw away 1,369 tons of Styrofoam products every day. The NYC school system alone throws away 150 million Styrofoam meal trays annually.
Styrofoam is a notorious pollutant that is very difficult to recycle due to its light weight and low scrap value. It is generally not accepted in curbside programs, is seldom able to be reused, takes up a considerable amount of space in landfills, and takes a very long time to fully decompose. Due to the physical properties of polystyrene, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that "such materials can have serious impacts on human health, wildlife, and the aquatic environment" because the product breaks down and can clog waterways or be mistaken for food by wildlife.
Why Styrofoam beams are bad for your health?
The International Agency for Research on Cancer lists styrene as a possible human carcinogen, though this conclusion is primarily based on studies of workers in styrene-related chemical plants. The Vallombrosa Consensus Statement on Environmental Contaminants and Human Fertility Compromise includes styrene on its list of contaminants of possible concern, noting that even weak estrogen mimics can combine with other such chemicals to have negative effects even when the chemicals are individually present at levels that would have no impact. On the positive side, a 2005 expert panel convened by the National Institutes of Health concluded that there is negligible concern for developmental toxicity in embryos and babies.
Studies suggest that styrene mimics estrogen in the body and can therefore disrupt normal hormone functions, possibly contributing to thyroid problems, menstrual irregularities, and other hormone-related problems, as well as breast cancer and prostate cancer. The estrogenicity of styrene is thought to be comparable to that of Bisphenol A, another potent estrogen mimic from the world of plastics.
Long-term exposure to small quantities of styrene is also suspected of causing:
Low platelet counts or hemoglobin values;
Chromosomal and lymphatic abnormalities;
Neurotoxic effects due to accumulation of styrene in the tissues of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, resulting in fatigue, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, and other acute or chronic health problems associated with the nervous system.

Our Faux Wood Beams weigh a small fraction of what a real wood beam would. One person can handle a 20' beam without a problem. There is no need for a crane or crew which you would need if it were a real wood beam.

Note: Any Timber or Sandblasted Beams and/or Corbels intended to be used in an exterior application needs to be top coated with a high quality clear coat exterior polyurethane with a UV inhibitor to protect the stain from fading.

How do I install your products?
A
Installing our Fauxwoodbeams is easy:
Make wood blocks (not supplied) to fit inside the beam.
Fasten wood blocks to your ceiling first. Use Liquid Nails or PL Construction adhesive on the top edges of the beam. (This step is optional).
Set the beam over the wood blocks. Screw or nail through the beam into the block. Lastly, fill nail or screw holes with colored wood putty (not supplied) to match.
How do I find someone who can install your products for me?

Where should I start to place the wood beams on my ceiling?
A
This is a matter of personal preference.
You could have the first wood beam start right up against the wall.
You could leave some space between the first beam and the wall.
Or you could start with a half beam (one wood beam that you have cut lengthwise down the middle) up against the wall, placing the other half against the opposite wall. This method gives the appearance that half of each beam is embedded inside the wall (much like a true Timber-framed home would be framed).

How far apart should I space the ceiling beams?

This too, is a matter of personal preference. The majority of customers install their wood ceiling beams with a spacing somewhere between 2 feet and 8 feet. Four-foot spacing is the most common, however.

How do I finish the products?
A
We have all the information you need for finishing our beams on our website on this page. We recommend using an acrylic deck stain. An acrylic deck stain dries in about an hour or two as compared to a gel stain that about 24 hours to dry. Also a good deck stain will have a UV protector in it to prevent the finish from fading. Oil base stains do not work well with our products.

Yes, we offer 20 different sizes of 4 sided beams. You will find this on the Raised Grain Beams page and Woodland Beams page of our website. These come as two pieces, a three sided beam plus a finishing cap to cover the fourth side.
